Google Ads Rejected Your Ad: What Each Reason Really Means and How to Fix It

"Disapproved" does not mean your account is in danger, but ignoring it can get there. The most common rejection reasons translated into plain language, the exact fix for each, and when to appeal instead of edit.

An ad marked "Disapproved" stops running, full stop. The status names a policy, but Google's policy names are not written for humans in a hurry. Here are the rejections that account for the vast majority of cases, what each actually means, and the fastest path back to running.

The rejections you will actually see

Destination not working

Google visited your landing page and could not use it: the page returned an error, took too long, redirected somewhere unexpected, or blocks Google's crawler. This is the most common rejection and usually has nothing to do with your ad text. Fix the page (or unblock the crawler), then request a re-review. If the page works for you but not for Google, check whether a firewall or bot protection is refusing Google's visits.

Misrepresentation

The ad or landing page promises something the page does not clearly deliver: prices that do not match, offers with hidden conditions, missing business identity, or exaggerated claims. The fix is alignment: what the ad says, the landing page must show, visibly. This one deserves care because repeated misrepresentation strikes are the classic road to account suspension.

Trademarks

Your ad text uses a trademark whose owner restricted its use in ads. You can usually still bid on the term, but not print it in the ad copy. Remove the brand name from the text, or, if you are an authorized reseller, apply through the trademark owner's authorization process.

Editorial standards

The boring one: EXCESSIVE CAPITALIZATION, repeated!!! punctuation, phone numbers in headlines, gimmicky symbols. Google wants ads that read like normal text. Rewrite the offending element; approval is usually quick.

Restricted categories: health, finance, alcohol, gambling

Some sectors require certifications or are limited by country: pharmacies, financial services, alcohol, gambling among others. If you operate in one, the fix is not an edit but a certification: check the policy page the rejection links to and apply for the relevant certification before resubmitting.

Adult content, dangerous products, inappropriate content

Mostly self-explanatory, but false positives happen: a knife shop, a security tool, a medical device can trip these filters. If your product is legitimate and the flag is wrong, this is the clearest case for an appeal rather than an edit.

Edit, resubmit, or appeal: which one?

  • If the rejection is right (the page was broken, the caps were excessive): fix it and save. Saving an edited ad automatically triggers a re-review, typically resolved within one business day.
  • If the rejection is wrong: appeal. In the ads table, the disapproved status offers an appeal option where you state the decision was incorrect. Appeals also usually resolve within a few days.
  • Never resubmit the identical ad repeatedly hoping for a different reviewer. Repeated identical violations accumulate against the account.

When to worry about the account, not the ad

One disapproved ad is routine maintenance. A pattern of disapprovals under the same policy, especially misrepresentation, is how accounts drift toward suspension. If you see the same policy name twice, stop treating it as noise: read the policy page it links, and change the approach, not just the wording. And keep your business information (name, address, payment profile) accurate; identity mismatches amplify every other problem.
