How bid adjustments work in Google Ads
Bid adjustments multiply your base bid. A +25% adjustment means Google will bid up to 25% more than your base bid during that time period, increasing your chance of winning auctions and showing ads.
Impact on Ad Rank. Ad Rank determines your ad position and whether your ad shows at all. Increasing bids during high-converting hours raises your Ad Rank in those auctions, meaning more impressions and better positions when users are most likely to convert.
Why time-of-day adjustments matter. Consumer behavior varies dramatically by time of day. A B2B software company might see 4× better conversion rates during business hours versus evenings. Without adjustments, you spend the same on clicks that convert at 0.5% as on clicks that convert at 4%.
When to revisit. Refresh your bid adjustments every 30–60 days, or after any significant campaign changes. Seasonal events (holidays, sales periods) can temporarily shift optimal hours.
